The Board of Visitors (BOV) was established to further the mission of The University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies in achieving its goals. Through the BOV, the College is able to tap into the combined knowledge and expertise of its members, who share a love of the University of Alabama and care about the success of the College. Members serve as an active planning coalition to assist the College in the advancement of excellence in educational programming and outreach.

  • provide non-traditional adult students with the opportunity to obtain a degree from The University of Alabama;The Board consists of a diverse group of business people, educators and professionals with a common goal of supporting the College in our efforts to:
  • provide professional development programs to assist in the attainment of career goals;
  • help to create a safer and healthier workplace and environment.

BOV members act in an advisory capacity to the Dean of the College, often serve as a sounding board for the Dean, serve on one or more of the Board’s standing committees and support the Dean and Director of Advancement in their efforts to secure scholarships and support funds for the College.

Board Objectives

  1. Provide feedback on program and curriculum development.
  2. Assist in identifying new and expanding opportunities for the College.
  3. Identify volunteers, prospective donors, and fund-raising opportunities and seek ways to strengthen partnerships with alumni and other friends for the advancement of the College.
  4. Serve on advisory committees to provide advice on specific programs needs and issues.

Board Obligations

  1. Mission - Possess a strong belief in the mission of the College of Continuing Studies.
  2. Leadership Giving – Annual contribution to the College’s Capstone Lifelong Learning Society support fund or toward scholarships for students.
  3. Commitment - Commit to serve on the Board of Visitors for a minimum of three consecutive years.
  4. Attendance - Attend the College’s two Board of Visitors meetings each year (Fall and Spring).
